ICMM quer anunciar novo padrão internacional para barragens em 2019

Na terceira Sessão do ‘Seminário Técnico Internacional sobre Barragens de Rejeitos e o Futuro da Mineração em Minas Gerais’, o Chief Executive Officer do ICMM, Tom Butler, falou sobre as ações do conselho para organizar um padrão mínimo internacional para a gestão de barragens de rejeitos minerais. Ele participou do seminário por teleconferência.

Ele disse que o ICMM espera anunciar este documento técnico até o final de 2019. O conteúdo está em formulação por um amplo grupo de multistakeholders, formado por comunidades, governos, investidores, indústrias, organizações multilatetais.

Tom Butler comentou também sobre a importância de ampliar os debates da mineração para além das questões técnicas, considerando aspectos comportamentais/culturais. Ele citou, como benchmark para a mineração, a indústria química e a de óleo e gás como referência para a abordagem de questões de segurança/sustentabilidade.

O seminário ocorre na Fundação Dom Cabral, em Nova Lima (MG). A organização do evento é do Instituto Brasileiro de Mineração (IBRAM), com o apoio do Governo do Estado de Minas Gerais, da Fundação Dom Cabral e da Federação das Indústria de Minas Gerais (FIEMG).
